For many of my generation, Warcraft III would have served as an introduction to the real-time strategy genre of video gaming. Its popularity, addictive gameplay and in-depth lore all contributed to an experience that young-teenage me spent endless hours playing…. and even more geeking out about in the schoolyard with friends. World of Warcraft Classic is not the only classic Warcraft experience developers Blizzard Entertainment have worked on in 2019, with Warcraft III: Reforged also being confirmed as in-development as of early-2018.
The wait is almost over, with Blizzard confirming that Warcraft III: Reforged will be available for purchase on 29 January 2020. This collection will include the full campaigns of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne which have received a top-to-bottom graphics and audio overhaul, in addition to online features kudos of the Battle.net gaming service. This edition will also feature a rebuilt World Editor, allowing players to create their own single-player and multiplayer experiences with hundreds of new triggers, LUA scripting support, new tools to import models and more.
Being released for the PC, you can now pre-order Warcraft III: Reforged via the Blizzard Online Store. Currently this is a digital exclusive product, however that is not to say a physical edition won’t be announced in the lead-up to next month. Digitally, players can either pick up a standard edition for $44.95 AUD or the Spoils of War Edition for $59.95 AUD. The extra fifteen dollars will net you hero skins for Arthas, Cenarius, Jaina, and Thrall; in addition to content for other Blizzard games.
While Warcraft III: Reforged will feature overhauled graphics and audio, the original voice acting recordings will be retained. Furthermore, players will be able to partake in online gameplay with not only other Reforged edition players, but the original as well.
