The battle royale genre of combat video games have been popular for a number of years now, with gamers having a number of options when it comes to choosing which one to play. While one could argue that the market is saturated enough, Spellbreak from video game developer Proletariat is shaking things up by ditching the typical guns and replacing them with an array of magical spells.
While Spellbreak has been announced for PC already, it was today confirmed during Sony Computer Entertainment’s State of Play livestream that the magical battle royale will also be headed to the PlayStation 4. Also announced were plans for there to be a beta in early 2020, to be followed by an official release.
Spellbreak will place you in the shoes of a battlemage, capable of casting powerful spells, combining primal elements and even flying across the map through a range of movement abilities. According to Proletariat CEO Seth Sivak, they took their “inspiration from old-school shooters with skill shots and crazy mobility” and “added in some modern twists to make a combat system that truly embodies fantasy action spellcasting“. Proletariat is offering a number of founder packs for Spellbreak via the game’s official website, priced between $49.99 USD and $119.99 USD. These packs will grant access to the closed beta, in addition to in-game currency, exclusive in-game avatars and more.
