The Tale of Final Fantasy XV Continues Through the Eyes of Gladiolus

After waiting potentially more than a decade since first being announced for Final Fantasy XV, it may have come as a disappointment when the main story came to an end. Provided you are willing to shell out for a season pass OR happy to pay for individual DLC chapters, Square Enix has more to tell through the eyes of Noctis’ travelling companions.

Bidding farewell to the warp-strike mechanics favoured by Noctis, the first downloadable chapter for Final Fantasy XV titled Episode Gladiolus is now available for purchase on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As its title implies, this chapter will put you in control of Gladiolus. In particular, this chapter tells the story of what happens from Gladiolus’ perspective when he leaves the party in the main story.

The Story

After losing to the enemy high commander Ravus, Gladiolus is forced to swallow a bitter pill and face the limitations of his own strength. In order to travel with the Chosen King, he realizes he must also possess a comparable level of power in order to protect him. In the ancient ruins that were found in the Kingdom of Lucis 30 years ago, the spirits of heroes that once served the king await the next generation of warriors.

Gladiolus parts ways with his entourage and meets up with Cor, the sole survivor of the trials. Now, with his mentor at his side, Gladiolus sets out to challenge the Shield of the Founder King: the Blademaster, Gilgamesh.

While you no longer have access to warp-strike in battle, the combat system now focuses on blocking and counterattacking through the new “Valor” and “Rage” systems. You also won’t be limited to the exact same areas, as previously inaccessible parts of Eos are made available.

Free Update

While Episode Gladiolus may be paid content, Square Enix have also released a new free update for Final Fantasy XV. Some of the significant additions revolve around Chapter 13, which introduces new cut scenes and two alternate playable routes to choose from.
