[Video] Persona 5 – Welcome to the Velvet Room

We may have seen four major Persona games released, but one of the consistents between them has been Igor at the Velvet Room. Taking place in an area which exists between dream and reality, mind and matter – this is an area which allows the Protagonist (or in some cases, protagonists) to fully utilise his/their Wild Card power through the fusion of Persona. When Persona 5 launches in a couple of months time, it should come as no surprise that the Velvet Room will be returning.

While previous games have seen the protagonist enter an area based on an ever-ascending elevator or a luxurious limousine, Persona 5 will see the leader of the Phantom Thieves trapped in a prison cell, watched over by the young-looking assistants Justine and Caroline.

As with past games, two or more Personas can be fused together to create what will hopefully be a more powerful one. In a means more morbid than previous titles, the original Personas need to be executed via guillotine to undergo the fusion. At least there doesn’t seem to be any harsh feelings from the fused Persona.

There are a few other Persona-related systems on offer in the Velvet Room, each with their own prison/torture inspired flair. You can strengthen a persona by “hanging” another one to it, put them in “lockdown” so they can learn to take less damage from their weakness, and transform them into an item or piece of equipment through the “electric chair”.

Some of what the Velvet Room has to offer can be previewed via the trailer above.

Developed by ATLUS and published in North America by ATLUS USA and PAL regions by Deep Silver (distributed by Five Star Games in Australia / New Zealand), Persona 5 will launch on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 from Tuesday 4th April 2017.
