February Update Brings New Content and DLC to Final Fantasy XV 1

Square Enix have this week made a number of new content additions to Final Fantasy XV as part of their latest update to the RPG.

New Downloadable Content

Available only to season pass holders for the game, a new Booster Pack + DLC is now available for download via the Xbox Marketplace and PlayStation Store. This pack will provide players with equipment which gives them “a potent combat advantage and improve their angling skills”. These pieces of equipment include:

Ragnarok – A single-handed sword allowing players to perform a powerful Warp-strike attack

Dragon DrainA fishing rod that suppresses the movement of fish, making harder fish easier to catch

Avior A reel that can pull in fish with greater strength, by taking off more HP the lower the line durability falls

Similar to their Holiday DLC released in December, Square Enix will be offering a free version of the Booster Pack which includes a Magitek Exosuit. However, this will be released at a currently unspecified date.

Game Update 1.05

Square Enix have also released another free update (v1.05) to Final Fantasy XV, which new content and features to the RPG, including:

  • Two songs from the action-RPG NieR: Automata (Song of the Ancients/Destiny and Weight of the World) being added to the in-game music player.
  • The addition of new timed quests
  • An increase in the level cap, from 99 to 120
  • An increase in the number of saved photos you can store – from 150 to 200
  • The ability to now access the music player while riding a chocobo.
  • Additional support for the PlayStation 4 Pro – which unfortunately doesn’t seem to be well received at the moment.

A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV

Depending on which country you are in, you may have received a copy of A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV as part of a pre-order promotion for Final Fantasy XV. Months after launch, Square Enix have confirmed that this game will be available to everyone from March 1st 2017.

A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV is an action game which boasts “retro-style graphics and fast-paced combat”. Taking place a fictitious 30 years before FINAL FANTASY XV, the story focuses on King Regis and his faithful companions (Weskham, Cid and Clarus), who must defend the royal capital from raiding monsters.

As someone who never received a copy of A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV, I look forward to seeing what this is like.

Final Fantasy XV was first released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Late-November 2016 – more than ten years after first being announced to gamers as Final Fantasy Versus XIII. You can read my full review of the title HERE.
