Giving another pre-PS2 era Final Fantasy game the chance to shine in an enhanced format, Square Enix have announced that Final Fantasy IX has been remastered, and can now be purchased for iOS (via the App Store) and Android (via Google Play) platforms. This will be followed by a Steam release at a date which has yet to be determined.
While at its core it remains the same game released in 2000, it does feature some improvements including:
- Higher definition movies and character models
- Cloud save functionality
- Autosave functionality
- Seven optional booster features, including high speed mode and no encounter mode, which will allow players to automatically master equipped weapons and gear, as well as maximize character levels, magic stone counts and gil. These are features for those who want to power through the game at a faster pace – or possibly want to enjoy the story more than the gameplay.
The Steam verion, which will be available at a later date, will come with keyboard/mouse compatibility and support for Steam trading cards/achievements.
