It is a harsh reality that not all video games manage to make it to market, and games which are not will likely never be seen by the general public outside of the screenshots, trailers and other promotional materials released prior to cancellation. But it seems like video game developer Volition has done a big F-you to that trend, with the video game developer opting to release an early prototype version of their PlayStation Portable game Saints Row Undercover.

As noted by Volition themselves via their official Tumblr page (which is where you can pick up a copy for yourself), this is an early prototype of what has eventually become a dropped project. Therefore “graphics and gameplay are not close to being polished or finished”. Given this is a cancelled project, you shouldn’t expect any kind of support or troubleshooting from them.

All this being said, it is exciting to see a video game developer do something like this. While I can understand the reasons why this would not be something a developer or publisher could do on a regular basis, it is something I would like to see done more in the future.
