In terms of real life experience opportunities surrounding video game franchises, in 2014 Bethesda Softworks teamed up with Warner Bros. Movie World to host an ‘The Evil Within’ inspired maze during the theme parks annual fright nights. Although I didn’t get an opportunity to see the final product, the sample maze presented during EB Expo 2014 was in my opinion, quite eerie and entertaining (Especially if you went through with a very scared group of people).
Moving forward a year, and gamers in Melbourne have an opportunity to dive into another video game released experience. Only this time, rather than a maze, participants must participate in a physical, live puzzle game – where completing brainteasers and other challenges will help unravel the storyline and escape the room within a set time limited.
To celebrate their upcoming release of Call of Duty: Black Ops III, which is set to feature a Zombie mode titled “Shadows of Evil”, Activision have announced a new event being held in Melbourne’s Federation Square from October 30 until November 6. Known as ‘Escape Room’, participants will be transported into the private chamber of Nero the Magician, where they will encounter a number of challenges which they must overcome in order to escape.
This experience is being delivered through a partnership with Secret Squirrel, the creative team behind Underground Cinema. It is hoped that through intricate set designs and staging, participants will feel as though they have directly stepped into the game.
