Previously, the easiest way to customise the appearance of your PlayStation 4 console with a distinct design was to purchase one of several Limited Edition models which have been released over the years. Although this may not be an alternative to purchasing the special console models, Sony Computer Entertainment (Australia) have announced that players will soon be able to give their PlayStation 4’s a little bit of creative flair.
Starting November 19, a range of custom faceplates will be released for the PlayStation 4. These have been designed to be both quick to attach and easy to fit, with the plan to have players customising their system in a matter of seconds. Replacing the faceplate is as simple as removing the HDD bay cover, and then sliding/clicking the chosen faceplate over the PS4 hard disc drive.
Don’t expect any branded faceplates to be available at launch however. At launch, there will be four colours to choose from: Neon Orange, Aqua Blue, Red and Glacier White. Some regions (not Australia unfortunately) will also have Silver and Gold plates released at a later date.
Here’s hoping that some developers and publishers get on board with this!
