Pokkén Tournament Headed to Wii U in 2016

-

Developed by Bandai Namco and originally only available in arcades within Japan, The Pokemon Company have recently confirmed that they will be publishing the Pokemon fighting game ‘Pokkén Tournament’ or ‘ポッ拳’ worldwide on the Wii U beginning Spring 2016 (or Autumn 2016 for those in the southern hemisphere).

Featuring gameplay that is reminiscent of fighting games such as Tekken (Also developed by Bandai Namco), Pokkén Tournament will allow players to pit a number of Pokemon against one another in active combat. Unlike the Pokemon RPG’s where players input commands and watch their Pokemon duel one another with minimal movement, Pokemon will be able to directly engage in combat, which is more reminiscent to that of the TV anime and other media formats (Albeit in 3D).

Only a handful of the 720 current Pokemon will be included in this game. The above trailer shows Blaziken, Lucario, Gardevoir, Gengar, Weavile, Machamp, Pikachu (Standard and Libre forms), Suicune and Charizard as being playable; with Pokemon including Fennekin and Emolga also being shown as supporting characters.
