EVE: Valkyrie is no longer the only virtual reality game in development by EVE Online developer CCP Games. The developer have today announced their upcoming release of EVE: Gunjack, a VR arcade shooter developed for the Samsung Gear VR platform. Built using the Unreal Engine 4 graphics engine, Gunjack seeks to deliver “fast-paced and full immersive action in a gorgeous panoramic sci-fi setting”.
In Gunjack, players take on the role of a gun turret operator on a mining vessel in the Outer Ring region of known space. As part of the ship’s defense team, it is up to the player to protect the rig from pirates, opportunists and anyone else looking to take what rightfully belongs to the company.
Like many of the other titles by CCP Games, Gunjack is set in the EVE Universe – although little is known about the interoperability between this and other titles in the franchise.
Hilmar Veigar Pétursson | CEO of CCP Games
We believe that virtual reality will be a defining element of gaming’s future. It may take some time to get widespread adoption, but we’re going to be there on day one. We’re making smart investments in VR so we can learn important lessons early and blow people’s minds when they get their hands on their first VR headset.
Jean-Charles Gaudechon | Executive Producer on Gunjack and Studio Manager at CCP Shanghai
Our goal was nothing less than creating the best game yet for the Gear VR headset. Our team has focused on delivering the most action-packed, graphically-stunning game possible on this new virtual reality platform.
EVE: Gunjack is set for release with the official launch of the Samsung Gear VR platform.
