If you are like me when playing online games, it is likely that you will find yourself becoming sick of grinding after a relatively small period of time and look for some side-activities to enjoy. Side-activities are the focus of Patch 2.51 for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn which has gone live on servers today, introducing The Manderville Gold Saucer from Final Fantasy VII to the world of Eorzea.

This area introduces a number of entertainment attractions and events for all players to enjoy including:

Triple Triad: The card game first introduced in Final Fantasy VIII is set to make a comeback. Players can fight against other players and NPC’s in 1 vs 1 card games – and can create their own custom decks using the 80 unique cards available at launch.

Chocobo Racing: Players can nurture, breed and raise their own specialized racing chocobo and race against other players in select locations across Eorzea. Players will be able to control their chocobo while racing down the track, avoiding dangers and picking up useful boosts to help them come out ahead of their fellow riders

Smaller Mini-Games: Those not willing to make a commitment to one particular game will be able to enjoy a number of other games. These include: Monster Toss (basketball free throw shooting), The Moogle’s Paw (crane machine), Cuff-a-Cur (punching game), and Crystal Tower Striker (mallet game). Each of these mini-games will be test the player’s reaction time and can be used to earn small amounts of Manderville Gold Saucer Points (MGP).

Gold Saucer Active Time Events: Similar to events that happen when on the field, these ‘GATEs’ are audience participatory events which randomly appear on the Gold Saucer. These events include but are not limited to dodging sneeze attacks from Typhon, rescuing wayward minions, emote-based dance contests, uncovering undercover imps and making deliveries while avoiding detection from bandits.

Mini and Jumbo Cactpot: Purchase tickets for a chance to win MGP daily and weekly.

Any MGP collected from the events listed above can be traded in for new awards including mounts and new attire. A full patch list for the update can be found HERE.
