After a poor reception to their original release of Final Fantasy XIV in 2010, Square Enix decided to reboot the game from the ground up rather than abandoning ship. After further development, including them taking the entire game down for several months, the development team managed to release Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on the PC and PlayStation 3 – followed by a PlayStation 4 edition in 2014. Defying my own expectations, the reboot delivered a very enjoyable online game experience that stayed true to the lore and gameplay elements traditionally found in a Final Fantasy game.

As we fast forward a couple of years, Square Enix is now working on their very first expansion pack for the game dubbed “Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward”, which will be released in Spring this year. Yet before making players pay extra money out-of-pocket for continued gameplay and storyline updates, they have released one final major game update which concludes the current storyline and introduces a handful of new features.

Patch 2.5 – Before the Fall introduces three new dungeons to the game world: Keeper of the Lake, Wanderer’s Palace (Hard mode) and Amdapor Keep (Hard mode). Also introduced is a conclusion to the “Crystal Tower” quest line and The World of Darkness, new crafting recipes, additional side story questions and an all-new battle against the primal: Odin – The Dark Divinity.

To access this content, players only need to log into the game through their client and download/install the update files.
