After limiting their releases in the Borderlands franchise to last generation consoles, including the recently published Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, 2K Games and Gearbox Software are set to make a big change to this. They have announced this morning that they will be publishing Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel under the one collection Borderlands: The Handsome Collection – which is headed to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 26th 2015.
This is not just going to be the same out-of-the-box games that players bought for last generation consoles, but also comes with new HD visuals and all downloadable content for both titles as of March 24th 2015. Additionally, up to four players can play together on a single television with four-player split screen – another first for the franchise. Cross-save functionality will also be available, allowing players to carry over their leveled-up characters and Bad Ass rank over to The Handsome Collection.
2K and Gearbox Software also announced today a VERY limited collector’s edition, the Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition, which will include everything in The Handsome Collection as well as a remote controlled Claptrap steward robot, a collectible steel case, and 12 exclusive lithographs. The Claptrap steward robot is controlled through a smartphone app and can move in all directions while balancing on one wheel. The Claptrap can also say lines in character and live stream video to a mobile device through his eye. 2K have confirmed that they will be releasing only 5,000 units of this edition, and its exclusivity comes at a whopping price of $499.95.
