While they spent enough time building it up with three other title announcements surrounding Persona 3 and Persona 4, ATLUS saved the final minute of their live stream last weekend promoting plans to release Persona 5 in Japan in Winter 2014 (Which indicates a likely 2015 release internationally) on the Playstation 3. While leaving us with very little information, this weeks issue of Dengeki Playstation have shared a few more details on the game and its storyline.
But while Persona 3 and Persona 4 both had distinct high school settings, the teaser trailer for the game was a bit darker, with the words “You are slave. Want emancipation?” emblazoned against a background with five chairs with balls / chain attached to each of them – indicating a potential change in setting.
Turns out that they haven’t ditched the high school setting, but these chairs are a fixture in the classroom (As a Juvenile School) – and represent a particular theme of the game. Persona 5 is about overcoming trials to free yourself from your “shackles”, and seems to have a completely different theme from the more upbeat happenings of Persona 4.
