Independent video game studio Ludochip have recently released Cubetractor, an action-strategy-puzzle hybrid where you defeat enemies through an unconventional cube-pulling, turret-building mechanic to both PC and Mac platforms. Currently available at a price of $8.50 USD (15% off its usual retail price for a limited time), you can pick up this title through a plethora of digital download distributors including Steam, Greenman Gaming, Gamefly, Get GamesGo, Gameolith and Gamersgate.

Cubetractor carries elements of a reverse tower defence and a grounded bullet-hell dodger to deliver a unique gameplay experience presented in a classic top-down perspective. Players take on the role of Endroi, a menacingly happy-go-lucky quadrubot as he strives to master the art of Cubetracting — the art of attracting Cubes. It’s a deceptively straightforward skill that involves dexterity, acute awareness, multi-tasking and tactical positioning. Players will have to strategize, solve and fight their way through multitudes of enemy installations to achieve victory.

The game gets pretty hard for a good number of casual players, despite its light-hearted appearance. But you know what? On the bright side if you were such a player, and if you didn’t give up, you’d find you’d be able to appreciate a lot more of the intense neo-retro sort of action games, particularly top-down shooters, you can see our take on the bullet hell experience on a small scale here!

  1. Looks cool and super fun. I think I could definitely enjoy something like this… whether or not I have the time though? That’s another question. But I purchase & download a bunch of games that I end up playing much later anyway. 🙂
