It was announced earlier today alongside a reveal trailer that CCP Games have converted their side project EVE-VR into a full-blown video game release to be published next year under the title EVE: Valkyrie.
Differing from their earlier titles – the more economic and serious online game EVE Online and the online first-person shooter DUST 514 – EVE: Valkyrie is a multiplayer space dogfighting shooter set in the EVE Universe. The game will make use of the Oculus Rift to deliver a virtual reality experience set to give players the sense of being a real pilot in an EVE Online spaceship.
In a press release, the CEO of CCP Games Hilmar Veigar Pétursson had this to say on the announcement:
From the moment this year’s Fanfest attendees first got their hands on EVE-VR, the question has been, ‘When can I have this? What started as a passion project by a small, incredibly talented group of CCP developers became one of the most highly anticipated games of the year — before we even announced it. We have big plans for EVE: Valkyrie and I can’t wait to share more details later this year.
In addition to the previously posted trailer, CCP Games have also shared a small set of screenshots which you can check out below:
