rustyThe clock has stopped around the turn to the 19th Century and human kind has prematurely blown itself to bits. The remaining remnants reside in caves beneath the surface and steam-powered robots have taken over the Wild West. You expected the robots to be the bad guys? Fret not, you actually play as one of them!

Does this sound interesting to you? Swedish video game developer Image & Form are chronicling this story in their new Nintendo 3DS game SteamWorld Dig – a hardcore platform mining adventure that is set for release via the Nintendo eShop in North America, Europe and Australia on the 8th August 2013. Containing approximately 12 hours of gameplay, this title will set you back  8.99 USD / 8.99 EUR / 11.99 AUD.

You play the protagonist, Rusty – a lone-wolf, steam-powered cowbot who has come to an old mining town in great need. While digging your way through the old earth for riches and helping the townfolks get back on their feet, you unwittingly wake an ancient evil that lurks below. You dig tunnels, collect rare minerals, sell them for better equipment while taking on the terrors of the underground.

  1. I like the art, but until I start seeing some videos, it’s hard to know if this is going to be the next major 3DS eShop release, y’know? Mighty Switch Force 2-style, I mean. I’m betting that game’s going to be Renegade Kid’s follow up to Mutant Mudds, “Treasurenauts”. But this seems to have potential, and – like I said – i love the art. So I’m keeping an eye on it.
