[Mini-Article] My Hopes for Persona 5

-

Exam time is upon me and therefore wont be making  any reviews until Sunday. However I would like to write a couple of articles here and there on various topics of different areas that this blog caters to. The first topic is on without a doubt the game I am most excited about, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5. Now there have been a lot of scattered “What I hope for Persona 5” topics on forums and comments around the internet, however I thought I would post mine here and the opinions are quite varied, mainly concerning console and changes to the gameplay mechanics. I first read it on the online gaming site Siliconera, and the article link can be found here. What was also interesting was Hashino, the director of Persona 4 stated that he wanted to add elements and change others within boundaries, which does leave me concerned that it could be changed enough to make it another series in the Shin Megami franchise instead of a Persona game. Therefore, I have based what I would like around that. So here is my list:

  1. This isnt really a suggestion but I thought I would state it here, I have seen a lot of people fighting over which console it goes to, and personally, I can see it almost certainly going to the Playstation 3, since every game has been on the Sony console so far including all upcoming games by ATLUS. Multiplatform isnt out of the question of course, but judging from past history, don’t go getting your hopes set too high.
  2. Setting: I have also seen a lot of people going around wanting the main characters to be university level or above and be around the ages of 20-30. To me, I actually prefer the whole teenage setting since I suppose that is the setting that has always been in the Persona series and it enables the whole game to flow better than if you had to start the game by choosing your degree at a university then having to run to the other side of the campus to unlock a social link. As well, I think that High School life allows more structure to the game since you dont have as many holidays to contend with and judging from my timetable for this semester at uni, you wont have to watch your character go through a striaght 12 hours of classes.
  3. Graphics: I don’t really want the HD Graphics like Final Fantasy XIII in the game. I might sound weird, but this is one of the only game series (Besides every Nippon Ichi game), that I prefer the anime-style art over the HD graphics. I wasnt repulsed from buying Persona 4 because it was on the PS2 and had inferior graphics to other games on the PS3 or PS2.
  4. Social Links: Keep… the stress in the last month to fulfill every social link it worth it.
  5. Longer Game Time: At least give us the whole year instead of 9 or so months of it.
  6. Music: More music styled like Persona 4, I like the upbeat style of music over the music of P3, even through it is still really good.
  7. More Personas: Since they have to redesign all the Personas from scratch (As in, create the ingame models of the personas), they should try and add more since playing Persona PSP, there were a number of ones I havent seen in other versions, so more the merrier!
  8. Mystery: Whilst I am fine with whatever storyline they throw at us, I wouldnt mind seeing another P4 like mystery only more bolder and more integration with the personas.

Just a few of my ideas anyway…..
