Australian performer Darren Coggan is set to bring a musical tribute to the Gold Coast for a single evening performance. Titled The Poems, Prayers & Promises of John Denver, the show is scheduled to take place at HOTA: Home of the Arts on Saturday 25 July 2026. The production focuses on the life and career of John Denver, featuring a selection of his most recognised works such as Take Me Home, Country Roads, Rocky Mountain High, and Annie’s Song.
Coggan aims to incorporate storytelling into the performance to guide the audience through Denver’s professional history. The setlist includes a variety of hits from the artist’s catalogue, spanning tracks like Perhaps Love, Thank God I’m a Country Boy, Calypso, and Leaving on a Jet Plane. The show also aims to highlight Denver’s blend of folk, pop, and country music, which maintained a significant cultural presence throughout the 1970s.
The performer noted that his connection to this music began in his early childhood and served as the primary inspiration for his own career in country music:
I have been a fan of John Denver’s for as long as I can remember. The very first songs I learned to play on the guitar at age six were John Denver songs. He was the reason I wanted to become a country singer-songwriter.
The performance will commence at 7.30 pm on 25 July 2026 at HOTA’s Theatre 1. Tickets for the event are currently priced at $65, excluding any additional booking fees. Ticket bookings can be made via the official HOTA website.
