Following a national tour just last year, RENT is set to feature at the Sydney Opera House once more for a five week engagement, starting 27 September 2025. Presented by Opera Australia and running until 1 November 2025, Jonathan Larson’s multi Tony Award winning RENT relocates audiences to New York City’s East Village in the early 1990s, with a story that tests friendships, chases big dreams and centres the power of love amid real world pressures.
The production, as you’d expect, features the show’s signature numbers including Seasons of Love, Take Me or Leave Me and La Vie Bohème. Inspired by Puccini’s La Bohème, RENT is positioned as a celebration of art and community as much as a piece of musical theatre history.
The 2025 cast includes Henry Rollo as Mark, a struggling documentary filmmaker, and Harry Targett as Roger, an HIV positive musician in recovery. Kristin Paulse plays Mimi, a reckless and passionate dancer, while Calista Nelmes reprises Maureen, performed opposite Imani Williams as Joanne, a Harvard educated lawyer. Googoorewon Knox appears as Collins alongside Jesse Dutlow as Angel. Tana Laga’aia plays Benny, the former friend and current landlord of Mark, Roger and Mimi. The ensemble features Anna Francesca Armenia, Kobe Brown, Sam Harmon, Lawrence Hawkins, Carmel Rodrigues, Chad Rosete, Eliza Soriano, Stacey Thomsett, Bree Tipoki and Theodore Williams.
