Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the musical CATS being performed in Australia, a brand new season is set to commence at its original Australian home, Theatre Royal Sydney (commencing 27 July 1985), in June 2025.
Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS tells the story of the Jellicle cats, who gather at the Jellicle Ball where their leader, Old Deuteronomy, makes the Jellicle choice, deciding which of them will be reborn into a new life. The musical features the timeless hit “Memory”, which over the years and decades has been covered by numerous artists including Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion.

CATS is a legendary show that I’ve admired for over 40 years. A sparkling fusion of music, dance and verse, it was revolutionary when it first opened and enticed new audiences into the world of musical theatre. I can’t wait to bring the original production of CATS back to Australia where it all began, at Theatre Royal Sydney, to celebrate its 40th anniversary in Australia.
