The Rocky Horror Show is touring Australia throughout 2023, and one casting decision which has remained a mystery is whom would be portraying the role of the Narrator during the show’s Perth and Gold Coast seasons. It has been confirmed that Nicholas Hammond will be portraying the role across both locations, performing alongside David Bedella who fulfils the role of Frank n Furter.
Hammond has a seasoned history on both stage and screen, and is known n for his roles as Friedrich von Trapp in the original film The Sound of Music, Nicholas Hammond’s
global career has included his own American prime time series, The Amazing Spiderman and appearances in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Love Boat, Magnum PI, Murder She Wrote and recurring roles on Falcon Crest and Dallas. He was also recently in the Australian production of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
Bedella on the other hand was the lead in Oh, What A Night! where he performed alongside Marcia Hines and Gary Sweet or his starring role in the critically acclaimed Jerry Springer: The Opera which played at Sydney Opera House. David comes to the Gold Coast with an impressive resume from both Broadway and London’s West End having performed roles in Smokey Joe’s Cafe, Jerry Springer the Opera, The Rocky Horror Show, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, The Producers, Chicago, In the Heights and most recently & Juliet. He can also currently be seen playing the President of The United States in Amazon Prime’s third season of Jack Ryan.
The pair will perform alongside a cast featuring Stellar Perry as Magenta, Ellis Dolan as Eddie/Dr. Scott, Darcey Eagle as Columbia, Ethan Jones as Brad, Deirdre Khoo as Janet, Loredo Malcolm as Rocky, and Henry Rollo as Riff Raff, with additional ensemble members rounding out the performance.
This 50th Anniversary production of The Rocky Horror Show is currently being performed in Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre until month’s end, where it will then open at the Perth Crown Theatre from 5 August 2023 and then The Star Gold Coast in Queensland on 2 September 2023. An additional Canberra season is set to commence at the Canberra Theatre in late-September 2023.
