Billy Elliot The Musical Headed to The Star, Gold Coast in July 2023

Closely following their Gold Coast season of Beautiful: The Carol King Musical, local producer Matt Ward Entertainment has confirmed they plan on bringing Billy Elliot – The Musical to The Star, Gold Coast for a limited season starting 1 July 2023. This is being billed as the ‘Queensland Premiere’, indicating they may tour their production either interstate or throughout Queensland – although this has yet to be confirmed.

Set in a northern English mining town, against the background of the 1984 miners’ strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy’s struggle against the odds to make his dream come true. Follow Billy’s journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and community and changes his life forever.

Tickets are not yet on-sale, with interested parties encouraged to visit the show’s official website to join its waitlist. A search for a young Gold Coaster to play the titular character will also soon be underway, with information also available via the musical’s official website.

Matt Ward Entertainment is a Gold Coast based performing arts organisation, whose previous productions include local seasons of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, Mamma Mia the Musical, and Wicked.
