Sherlock Holmes Comes to QPAC Next Year in The Mystery of the Valkyrie 1

Arguably one of the world’s most popular fictional detectives is making his way to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) next year, with Woodward Productions today announcing The Mystery of the Valkyrie will have its theatrical debut on QPAC’s Playhouse stage in March 2022.

Inspired by the stories of Arthur Conan Doyle, this new Australian work comes to life on stage with veteran performer Hugh Parker as Sherlock Holmes, one of the most legendary characters of literature and screen. Holmes will be in the familiar surrounds of 221B Baker Street, with iconic characters including Watson, Adler and Moriarty all having a role in the tale going ahead.

According to the producer, they are aiming to have this production feature “extraordinary staging and projections”.

Produced by Woodward Productions, The Mystery of the Valkyrie features Michael Futcher as Writer & Director, with video designs by Craig Wilkinson, lighting designs by David Walters, stage management by Margaret Burrows, Janis Balodis as Dramaturg, Isabel Hudson as designer and Phil Slade as Composer/Sound Designer. The producer has been behind a number of other productions in recent years, including Weathering Well, Caroline O’Connor: From Broadway with Love and A Very Naughty Christmas.

Tickets for The Mystery of the Valkyrie will go on-sale from 4 November 2021 at 9.00am through the QPAC website or phoning QTIX on 136 246. The season will start on 29 March 2021 and run for a strictly limited season.

About The Mystery of the Valkyrie

1890’s London – renowned detective Sherlock Holmes, assisted by his trusted friend, Dr Watson, are thrown into a world that is not as it seems as they investigate the grisly murder of a scientist at Birlstone Manor.

What begins as a routine case for the famous sleuth, transforms into a dark web of intrigue, ultimately leading Holmes’ to an encounter with his greatest nemesis, – the infamous Professor Moriarty – a battle he must win.

The game is afoot!
