What do you get when you form an orchestra with players of the didgeridoo, koto, tabla and guitar? In 2018, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) formed the JADE: New World Collective, a four-member ensemble in residence which serves as the answer to just that question. Comprising of Australian First Nations didgeridoo player David Williams, Japanese koto player Takako Haggarty Nishibori, Nepalese tabla player Dheeraj Shrestha and Australian guitarist Dr Anthony Garcia; the group debuted to audiences at the QPAC Cremorne Theatre in February 2019 through the ‘Crystal Moonlight’ concert.
Affected like all other performing arts organisations in Australia due to the COVID-19 pandemic, QPAC have commenced their QPAC At Home online series which will feature work from their artists, stages and studios over the coming weeks. First in the organisation’s line-up is a stream of the opening performance of Crystal Moonlight. The performance, available via the Official QPAC website, consists of two pieces: Earth Murmur and Ancient Waters.
It is currently unknown if QPAC intends on making other segments of the concert available to the public at a later date as part of this series.
