Expanding their COVID-19 shutdown a couple of weeks past other venues, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) have this afternoon confirmed that their complete venue – including all four theatres (Lyric, Concert Hall, Playhouse and Cremorne) – will be closed until Thursday 30 April 2020.
FULL PUBLIC STATEMENT FROM THE QUEENSLAND PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE (QPAC)
As Queensland’s major performing arts centre our role has always been to bring people and community together to connect and share experiences through live performance. This unprecedented environment challenges all that QPAC has done for the past 35 years and the decisions needing to be made each day come with great responsibility. Following the Prime Minister’s most recent direction QPAC’s theatres will now be closed until Thursday 30 April 2020.
All patrons affected by the cancellation of performances and events in this period will be contacted directly by QPAC and will receive a full refund.

This announcement will impact many shows at the venue, which will either be cancelled entirely or be rescheduled for a later date. Some of these include, but are not limited to, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sondheim on Sondheim, much of the already-cancelled World Science Festival program, performances of Camerata, Queensland Pops Orchestra and more, the rescheduled season of Penn & Teller and countless other productions.
I want to pass on my thoughts to everyone at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre who are being impacted by this; in addition to the performers, creatives and crew who will also have their livelihoods affected. In particular, the box office staff and programming teams who have always been brilliant to me, who have a long few days ahead of them engaging with external producers and contacting patrons about refunds.
