The Arts Centre Gold Coast create one major in-house stage musical per year, with previous productions including Jesus Christ Superstar and Miss Saigon. Offering something the whole family can enjoy in 2016, they will be holding eight shows of Mary Poppins during June. With a little more than two months until performances begin on the Arts Theatre stage, they have confirmed the actors who will be portraying the lead characters in their production.

The titular character of Mary Poppins will be portrayed by Georgina Hopson, who last year starred in Harvest Rain’s productions of The Pirates of Penzance as Mabel (goldtrophy) and Into the Woods as Cinderella. Joining her on-stage will be Max Patterson as the lovable personality Bert. Patterson’s will be returning back to his home town following a tour of Singapore and Europe.

Adding to her repertoire of skills as a presenter, announcer and journalist at 102.9 Hot Tomato – Carla Tooma is set to take on the role of Winfred Banks. It is currently unknown who will be taking on the role of George Banks.

Unlike past musicals held by The Arts Centre Gold Coast, Mary Poppins requires children in the cast as lead roles. With only eight productions being held, they have enlisted two children each as Jane and Michael Banks.

Following her starring role recently as the titular character in the Spotlight Theatre’s production of Annie, Jamieson Schmitzer is joining the cast as Jane Banks. Also portraying Jane Banks is Elysium Hipwood, who has studied at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) and taken part in many of their productions including The Little Mermaid Jr. and Peter Pan Jr.

While a little bit older than the original casting profile at 13 years old, Michael Fryer is one of the two boys taking on the role of Michael Banks. This follows his extensive musical theatre experience in local productions of shows such as Archive, Seussical, A Midsummer Night Dream and more. He will be joined by Elijah Fern, who also has experience performing in the Harvest Rain Arena Spectacular of Cats back in 2014.

Mary Poppins is being performed for just eight shows at The Arts Centre Gold Coast from 17 June 2016 to 25 June 2016.  With tickets priced between $42.00 and $65.00, you can book tickets for it HERE.
