Following a successful run at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney, The Sound of Music have travelled to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s (QPAC) Lyric Theatre. For the last week, the show has been holding preview sessions, and is finally set to hold its opening night this evening. This will be followed by a six to seven week run, with up to eight shows a week from now until the 1st May 2016.

In The Sound of Music’s latest Australian tour, Amy Lehpamer (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Once, The Rocky Horror Show) takes on the lead role as Maria Rainer, while Cameron Daddo (Legally Blonde, Big River) fills the shoes Captain Georg von Trapp. This duo stars alongside Marina Prior (Mary Poppins, The Secret Garden) as Baroness Schraeder, Jacqueline Dark (Opera Australia’s Aida, Don Giovanni) as Mother Abbess, Lorraine Bayly (Calendar Girls, The Sullivans) as Frau Schmidt, David James (Playschool, Avenue Q) as Max Detweiler, Stefanie Jones (Once) as Liesl and newcomer Du Toit Bredenkamp as Rolf.

The Sound of Music was originally created by the legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein, and is inspired by the lives of the actual von Trapp family. It tells the story of Maria, a fun-loving governess who changes the lives of the widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children by re-introducing them to music, culminating in the family’s escape from the Nazis across the mountains from Austria. This musical version features songs many would be familiar with, including: Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going On Seventeen, Climb Ev’ry Mountain and the titular song: The Sound of Music.

Tickets to see The Sound of Music at QPAC are now on sale, priced between $69.90 and $140.90, depending on session choice, seating preference and concession status (select shows). There will also be a special Ausland interpreted performance held on Tuesday 19 April 2016 at 6.30pm (MORE INFORMATION HERE). For more information on the show and to book tickets, visit the official QPAC website or contact their box office.
