Following seasons which have already been confirmed for Melbourne (Her Majesty’s Theatre – May 2016) and Sydney (Lyric Theatre – July 2016), it has today been confirmed that performances of Singin’ in the Rain will be held at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) Lyric Theatre starting September 2016. Tickets for this production are set to go on sale Friday 16th October 2015 via the official QPAC website.

Set in 1927 and based off the iconic 1952 MGM movie of the same name, Singin’ in the Rain tells the story of the first Hollywood Musical, during a period when the silver screen became prominent and left silent movies (and some of its stars) behind in the transition. Don Lockwood is a silent movie star with everything he could want – fame, adulation and a well-publicised ‘romance’ with his co-star Lina Lamont. But Hollywood is about to change forever. There is rumour in the studio of a new kind of film, where the actors actually talk…and sing…and dance. Can Don and the uniquely voiced Lina make the transition and will chorus girl Kathy Selden fulfil her dream of stardom and capture Don’s heart along the way?

This production features more than 12,000 litres of recycled water, which will be used to enhance the show’s titular and arguably most famous song/dance scene as it is performed live on stage – with some guests in the front rows potentially set to leave the theatre slightly wetter than when they arrived. Over 800 metres of pipework, a 9,000kg water tank and a water system that creates a downpour from above as well as flooding from below the stage help enhance this scene further.

he lead role of Don Lockwood will be played by stage and screen star Adam Garcia. Joining Adam on the stage is Jack Chambers as his sidekick Cosmo Brown,  Erika Heynatz as the vapid leading lady Lina Lamont, Gretel Scarlett as aspiring actress Kathy Selden and Robyn Arthur as Hollywood gossip reporter Dora Bailey. Other major cast members include Rodney Dobson as Roscoe Dexter and Mike Bishop as RF Simpson.

These stars will be joined by a large supporting cast including: Ben Brown, Nadia Coote, Stefanie De Castro, Jan Di Pietro, Samantha Leigh Dodemaide, Ben Gillespie, Jillian Green, Melanie Hawkins, Matthew Jenson, Lauren Jimmieson, Rob Mallett, Sam Marks, Hayley Martin, Meghan O’Shea, Glen Oliver, Nathan Pinnell, Jordan Pollard, Romina Villafranca, Rachael Ward and Lyndon Watts.

This production of Singin’ in the Rain is being produced by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, Dainty Group International, Michael Cassel Group and David Atkins Enterprises.
