In March this year, Harvest Rain put on a limited season run of The Pirates of Penzance in the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s Concert Hall. Serving as an updated and tweaked version of the incredibly comical Essgee version of The Pirates of Penzance from the 90’s (With direction by Simon Gallaher), this production remains a personal highlight of my visits to QPAC this year. This has also left me with high expectations for the next production by Harvest Rain.
In only two weeks time, Harvest Rain are set to hold their second major production for 2015 at QPAC. Rather than acquainting guests with a gang of comical pirates and a modern Major General, the theatre company will be taking them into the forest with renown fairy tale characters, through their production of Into the Woods. This production comes after Disney released their live-action film adaptation of the stage musical, with some promotional material from Harvest Rain running with the subtitle “You’ve seen the film, now experience the magic live on stage“.
This new stage production of Into the Woods stars Eddie Perfect (The Baker), Rachael Beck (The Baker’s Wife), Rhonda Burchmore (The Witch), Georgina Hopson (Cinderella), Tom Oliver (Jack), Penny Farrow (Jack’s Mother), Kimberley Hodgson (Little Red Riding Hood) and Natalie Greet (Rapunzel) among other talent.
Into the Woods is set to run from October 1st to 4th at the QPAC Concert Hall, with only six sessions being held during this period. Ticket prices range from $69 to $119 per seat, with prices dependent on seating preference.
