From March 11 2016, The Sound of Music will begin performances at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s Lyric Theatre for a season of currently unspecified length. As the show requires children to fill the roles of Friedrich, Louise, Kurt, Brigitta, Marta and Gretl, the hunt is now on from the 18 Brisbane youth to fill these roles (With approximately 3 children to fill each role). Those looking to get involved are now invited to apply for an audition via the official The Sound of Music website.

Do note that there are strict height requirements for each character, and those who do not fit in with the height range will not be seen. The same can be said for broken voices with regards both Friedrich and Kurt, as they are after youth who have unbroken voices. Applicants are also expected to have a high level of skill in acting, dancing and singing (including part singing with harmonies). All audition applicants must live within one and a half hours drive of the CBD, and both reside and study in Queensland.

Auditions will be held from the 25th to 29th of October 2015. Those lucky 18 who get chosen for these six roles will join already announced talent including Amy Lehpamer (Once, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) as Maria Rainer and Cameron Daddo (Legally Blonde, Big River) as Captain Georg von Trapp.

The Sound of Music – Official Synopsis

It features an unforgettable score that includes some of the most famous songs ever performed on stage, including My Favorite Things, Edelweiss, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going On Seventeen, The Lonely Goatherd, Climb Ev’ry Mountain and the title song, The Sound of Music.
