The Harvest Rain Theatre Company have presented a number of enticing stage musicals this year. They entertained crowds with their highly entertaining version of The Pirates of Penzance directed by Simon Gallaher, have given children their chance to star on-stage with a holiday workshop involving Disney’s Aladdin Kids and are currently working their way through three interesting shows as part of their incubator season.

Their next major production at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) is set to be Into the Woods, another four day production to be held at the Concert Hall from October 1st to 4th. Although I was unable to attend due to other unavoidable commitments, Harvest Rain held a launch event a couple of days ago, which saw them announce the principal cast and crew for the show. A list of cast and crew confirmed during the event can be found below:

Crew

  • Director – Tim O’Connor
  • Music Director – Jason Barry-Smith
  • Designer – Josh McIntosh
  • Lighting Design – Andrew Meadows

Cast

  • Georgina Hopson (Mabel – The Pirates of Penzance) – Cinderella

  • Steven Hirst – Cinderella’s Prince
  • Belinda Heit – Cinderella’s Stepmother
  • Casey McCollow – ??

  • Genevieve Tree – ??
  • Dean Vince – ??

The latter four names were sourced from the Harvest Rain website, and I am not 100% sure about whom they play at the moment. This list will be updated as soon as I know.

Tickets are currently on sale via the Queensland Performing Arts Centre for all five sessions currently being offered (Thursday 7:30PM, Friday 7:30PM, Saturday 2:00PM & 7:30PM and Sunday 1:00PM). Prices range from $99 to $119 depending on your preferred seat.

Official Synopsis for Into the Woods

Venture into the woods with Cinderella and her Prince, Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf, Rapunzel, the Witch, Jack (who climbed the beanstalk) and a host of other enchanted characters whose worlds collide in this masterful fractured musical fairytale by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. When a Baker and his wife learn they’ve been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, but soon discover the perils of “happily ever after” and what really happens when you get everything you wished for.
