Following seasons in both Melbourne and Sydney these past months, Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage has finally danced its way to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) for an eight week season. Having been performed in several countries around the world since it premiered in 2004, this Australia-originating stage musical is based on the hit 1987 film ‘Dirty Dancing’ – renown for both its cast choices and for introducing the timeless song ‘(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life’ to worldwide audiences.
The Australian cast of Dirty Dancing includes Kurt Phelan as Johnny Castle, Kirby Burgess as Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman, Maddie Peat as Penny Johnston and Mark Vincent as Billy Kostecki, with a list of all cast members (w/ profiles) available via the official Dirty Dancing Australia website. I had the fortune of having an interview with Mark Vincent earlier today, and plan to have it published in the next few days.
Having been through two preview sessions yesterday and an additional Cancer Council Dress Rehersal on May 26, Dirty Dancing is set to finally have its opening night festivities this evening – with the show itself starting at 8PM. Tickets for tonight and other sessions through to July 19 are still available for purchase through the QPAC Website and Box Office. Tickets range from $59.90 to $139.90, depending on your status (Adult or Concession), session time and seating preference.
The Otaku’s Study will have a review of Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage in the coming days.
