Moulin Rouge! The MusicalM
Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a theatrical production that serves as a adaptation of the 2001 Baz Luhrmann film, “Moulin Rouge!” The musical premiered on Broadway in July 2019, and is now touring Australia. The production is produced by Global Creatures, the Australian theatrical company behind the likes of Strictly Ballroom the Musical and Muriel’s Wedding the Musical, and directed by Alex Timbers, with a book by John Logan.
Set in the bohemian Montmartre district of Paris at the turn of the 20th century, the story revolves around a young poet named Christian who falls madly in love with Satine, the star performer at the Moulin Rouge cabaret. As Christian and Satine’s forbidden love blossoms, they must navigate the complexities of their own desires while facing obstacles such as a jealous Duke and the impending closure of the Moulin Rouge.
