Rozen Maiden – Volume 7

-

RozenMaiden7

The second last volume of this series of Rozen Maiden. It is getting down to the last part of the storyline, the battle between Shinku’s group of maidens and Kirakisho. Enough dilly-dallying, read my review after the jump!

Spoiler Warning

Chapter 34

I suppose this would be one of the more sad chapters in the series. It focuses on the death of Hinaichigo without anyone she trusts after being tricked by her so called master Corinne. Unfortunately she leaves in a very depressing way… falling into an abyss with false imitations of everyone else saying that it is a good thing that is she gone, only to have her devoured by Kirakisho in order for her to have a vessel. Shinku however realizes and goes to her rescue…..

Chapter 35

In an N-Field, Shinku enters to find Hinaichigo through a door which is covered in darkness. Berrybell comes out of it and the figure disappears. Shinku realizes what has happened and is traumatised by it. In the hospital ward during this time, Suigintoh is also approached by Kirakisho and starts to taunt her. Back with Shinku, Kanaria notices Shinku and gets the impression that she killed Hinaichigo, which results in a battle…..

Chapter 36

Hinaichigo puts a stop to their fight and essentially gives her Rosa Mystica to Shinku. Back in the hospital, Kirakisho is trying to form an alliance with Suigintoh. Back at Jun’s house, Suiseiseki gives him a less than friendly awakening threatening him saying that she will become his “Spartan Maiden for life”. As well, Kanaria has moved in so +1 to Jun’s Doll Harem, negating the prior loss. Suiseiseki and Jun are unaware of what has happened.

Chapter 37

Corinne however also fell into the trap of Kirakisho by being stuck in her own little dream world, apparantly stuck in the same hospital Meg is in. Suigintoh also has a troubling dilema, whether or not she should accept the deal of everyones Rosa Mystica for her master. Instead she decides to form a contract with her in a sort of wedding ceremony style to apparantly give the word that she will not join Kirakisho’s side. Kanaria is pretty distraught and tries to make up for Hinaichgos absense by claiming she will be back every day. When she arrives at her home, Mitsu decides to join Kanaria the next day…

Chapter 38/39

Stress relief chapters? It is essentially on Mitsu and Jun helping each other in the world of doll making, with Jun pointing out all her flaws (Decent number of them) in her costume design whilst she teaches him about how to make a profit out of it. As well, it is revealed that she got her doll through an email, which shows the variety of means that people get them.

Chapter 40

Still a continuation of the prior chapters however with several key factors. Jun reveals he is willing to give school another try, Kanaria and Shinku are keeping watch of the N-Fields and most importantly, that the discovery of Souseiseki’s hat as also lead to her disappearance from her case.

Spoiler End

Artwork

The artwork is the same quality as all the other volumes… no quality drop and no quality gained. Still wish they would put a bit more quality into the background art.

Characters

There was a fair bit of character development surrounding Kanaria, Shinku, Jun and Mitsu, however there wasn’t much development with Suiseiseki or any other characters in the series. Whilst Suiseiseki is my favourite character, I would have to say it was nice to get some development on Mitsu so she isn’t another master that is barely seen in the series. Decent amount of development so overall I am satisfied.

Storyline

This I suppose is more the main part of the storyline nay for the two chapters which are kind of relief chapters. I was pretty impressed with how they did it, maybe not enough emotion of the other characters about Hinaichigo’s disappearance (Considering she has only left the house alone once before). I also didn’t feel like the relaxing chapters were filler episodes, instead they provided interesting development on Jun, just like previous chapters like it, which whilst being comical, provided us with development on one or two of the maidens. Despite a few things which I felt could have been done better, not bad as a whole.

Extras

Pretty disappointed with this set of extras:

  • Introduction
  • Character List
  • Next Volume Synopsis
  • Advertisments

I suppose they were saving space for the content… but I was hoping for more since they didnt even have chapter introduction art in most cases.

Personal Opinion

Not my favourite episode and most probably one of the shorter volumes, but overall still pretty good and is entering at a good pace for a climax… which since I have already read the next volume can say is cut very short anyway. Still, I would encourage you to read this series as I can say it is my favourite Peach-Pit title to date!

Overall Score

Artwork: 8/10
Characters: 7/10
Storyline: 11/15
Extras: 1.5/5
Personal Opinion: 7/10

Total: 34.5/50 (69%)

[review pros="Honestly, you would know if there were Pros and Cons for this series well and truly by now if you read it haha" cons="Same comment as under 'Pros'" score=69]
