Murder Princess – Volume 2

murderprincess2

This is the second and final volume of Murder Princess, published in english by Broccoli Books. While Broccoli Books USA is not releasing any more manga, this is still one of the ones that you may find floating around in stores. Overall, this is definitely a good solid manga that concludes well.Graphics
Overall the graphics were just the same as they were last time, very well done. Whilst Sekihiko Inui does not have as many characters to draw as say, Ken Akamatsu in Negima, the wide variety of characters that are used is astounding, and the attention to detail is very high, except for the overuse of faceless faces, which may occur in other manga but this is the first time it has really stood out to me. On a very positive note however, the character emotions are definately overdone at times, particulary with Falis, however despite it sounding like a negative, it actually adds an added creepiness to her character which definately wouldn’t have been half as good without it.

The backdrops are well detailed as well, but my problem with the undetailed white background still remains here which seems to be common in lots of manga, yet I still cannot get over it. Some of the parts of the manga do have lots of background detail yet in another lot of the manga, it is just plain white, maybe with a few lines to indicate fast battle movement. But the backdrop that is given, they are actually really well done.

Storyline/Characters
Chapter 6:Chain of Sadness – I thought this chapter contributed to the storyline well, but didn’t really catch my attention much. With Alita finding out that the knight attempting to invade Forland is her brother in the search for a “key”, her and Falis discuss what it is, however little is revealed, since Alita herself doesn’t know much about it. Unexpected ending to the chapter…

Chapter 7: Cause and Effect – More people around Forland have been decapitated as there have been more monsters swarming. Also, the secret of the corrupted people is revealed. This chapter was a really interesting one, it starts taking a route away from the anime if I remember rightly which definately adds a bit of vareity for us people who have watched the anime and vice versa.

Chapter 8: Persons Concerned – In this chapter, it turns out that the android twins and Professor Akamashi have found out about the two switching bodies. They lure Falis into their hideout but she is the least of their troubles…. this chapter and the next are definately interesting with many forms of allies being created and broken. Not the best chapter out of the series but definately up there.

The rest of the chapters will not be commented on to not spoil the storyline. However, the storyline in comparison to the manga is very different from here on in. I would personally say that the anime storyline is a bit better than the manga storyline, but they are both different so it both leads to personal preference. I feel that with another volume or two, the storyline could have definately been much more interesting and they could have gone into much more detail which they definately could have done. However, for two volumes, they definately did a rather good job.
