Rozen Maiden Manga – Volume 2

Rozen Maiden Volume 2 Cover

Finally, I can finally fill in the gap that was left between other reviews for the Rozen Maiden Manga series (1, 3, 4 and 5). This is one of the better volumes and basically starts the main storyline, with the introduction of two more dolls (Hinaichigo and Suiseiseki).

Artwork: It is evident that the graphics between each of the volumes improves a considerable amount each time, and reading this confirms this. With several more characters being added to the series, more designs have been produced and of course, they all turned out great, especially Suiseiseki who has a great amount of detail on her ~DESU. Alongside this, the character designs of Tomoe and Hinaichigo can not be excluded, with them also being of a very high quality. The backgrounds still seem limited with minimal detail, which leaves the focus only on the characters, which whilst good for some, isn’t really an appealing point for me. This aside, rather good detailing of the Graphics!

Characters: There were a few characters added in this volume including:

  • Tomoe
  • Hinaichigo
  • Suiseiseki
  • Souseiseki (Only in flashbacks)
  • The “Evil Master” (Only in flashbacks)

Each of them, I have mentioned in past reviews of future volumes, however, they all play a critical role in this volume, especially Tomoe and Hinaichigo who have most of the volume dedicated to them.

Storyline: This volume starts where the last volume ended, Shinku and Jun are still with Laplace’s Demon, where Shinku is given back Hollier, and that is basically that for them for awhile. Throughout the rest of the volume, it focuses on the relationship between Shinku, Jun, Tomoe and Hinaichigo and the struggles they endure, including the first Alice Game. The last part of the volume shows Suiseiseki’s arrival and how they plan to help Jun overcome his problem.
