Manga I am on the Lookout for (Part 1 – Broccoli Books)

-

As I do think I have mentioned over the last few months, it isn’t a very easy task hunting down manga (Althrough the anime distribution is quite good) where I come from, however there are titles which have caught my eye so over the next few days, I am going to post some of the manga which I am interested in viewing, and on that note as well, hopefully going to be able to blog sometime. For my first lot, I thought I would start it off with Broccoli Books, who released Kon Kon Kokon, my first manga review on this site.

Koi Cupid

Description: Maybe if someone had told Koi, Ai and Ren, they could stay out of trouble. The girls try to finish their missions by the book, but something always gets in the way. Sometimes it’s a super-shy girl, sometimes it’s a hyperactive devil, but it’s always trouble. If these girls want to get their stamps and become full-fledged cupids, they’ll have to play to win!

Genre: Comedy/Romance

Comments: Well…it has been a long time since I read a book that did not revolve around some sort of violence, and I usually find that the manga that looks like it is aimed at kids is usually a good read.

Disgaea

Description: So… you wake up one day after a two-year nap and discover that your father is dead. What do you do? Take over his kingdom and rule with an iron fist, of course!

Laharl may be new to the whole Overlord scene, but with the help of the demon-girl Etna and the angel-ditz Flonne, he’s going to be the best ruler the Netherworld’s ever seen. All he has to do is get by the hordes of halfwit hellions determined to challenge him for the throne, foil an interdimensional plot and keep his own vassals from trying to kill him

Sound rough? Hell yeah.

Creator: Arashi Shindo

Genre: Fantasy/Comedy

Comments: As I made mention awhile back, around 4-5 months ago I managed to find a copy of the PS2 Disgaea. Now, the game is almost impossible to find in stores as it has been for years and once I got a hold of it, I really enjoyed it 😀 So what could be a better way then to read it in manga form? It has got me interested.

Disgaea 2

Description: Sure, Laharl united the Netherworld and Celestia in peace, but what’s he done lately? Nothing much, and Etna’s sick of it. She wants her own world to rule, and she already has one picked out.

All she has to do is defeat its overlord and the human champion named Adell who’s determined to destroy him. After a botched summoning that binds him to the overlord’s daughter Rozalin, Adell sets out to free his world from tyranny once and for all, and he’ll clobber anyone who gets in his way.

Hell of a choice, Etna.

Creator: Hekaton

Genre: Fantasy/Comedy

Comments: My comments are basically the same as Disgaea however, I was fortunate and smart enough to put a pre-order on the PS2 version, althrough I almost lost the pre-order due to a mistake with it >.>. Anyway, I do hope to read this as well, I had seen a preview of it in a magazine (I think) and it looked superb!

Murder Princess

Description: The world of politics is treacherous enough. In Foreland, it’s deadly confusing. When her royal father is murdered by a greedy drug manufacturer, Princess Alita must step forward to take over the kingdom – but who is the real princess?

Don’t ask her.

A freak magical mishap has trapped her in the body of Falis, the bounty hunter. Now Alita must rule disguised as a servant as the battle-savvy Falis sits on the throne in her body! As if this were not enough to juggle, evil Professor Akamashi and his twin android assassins just HAVE to cause trouble.

Threatened by a coup and attacks from without, the fate of the kingdom is in the hands of Alita and Falis. Switched souls or not, there’s another royal heir and Alita just has to hold everything together for a little longer.

Creator: Sekihiko Inui

Genre: Fantasy/Action

Comments: If you look here I did a review of the whole OVA series while it was being shown in Japan. Now first of all, with just me being able to keep interested in the series for the whole time proves that it is a good manga to start off with. I liked how they took the genre, and some way which I still have no idea, made it absolutely appealing to me, someone who usually hates violence in Video Games. I do wish to see how the manga that the anime was adapted from works out, and to see how much was cut out of the anime, as I do believe it should have gone for more than 6 episodes.

nui1_cover.jpg

Nui!

Description: When Kaya runs into trouble one day, it’s not a knight in shining armor, but her stuffed animals that come to her rescue. It may sound crazy, but Kaya isn’t pretending: she loves her stuffed animals so much, they come to life and turn into people! Plushies come in all different shapes and sizes, and so do their hearts—whereas some are nice, there are others who are not so kind.

Kaya’s about to discover that the world of plushies isn’t all fun and games, it’s downright dangerous sometimes!

Now From the artist of +Anima comes a cute story of plushies and love. Have you ever loved a toy so much it became real to you?

Creator: Natsumi Mukai

Genre: Fantasy/Comedy

URL: http://www.broccolibooks.com/books/nui/nui_index.htm

Comments: This is the only series that I saw without any previous knowledge about, and I guess it appealed to me as I do like the supernatural mangas, such as the talking stuffed dolls. Looks very interesting so I do hope to get my hands on it at some stage!

Well… that is it for the list at the moment. There are many other good things that they release such as the Di.Gi.Charat series and the Galaxy Angel series however, I decided not to add them as there were so many to choose from.

All descriptions and images were taken off the main Broccoli Books website, found through any of the URL’s on this post.
