In the wee hours of this morning (Australian time), the final episode of the latest season of Doctor Who aired on Disney+. While it is unclear when the next season will take place, with some estimates indicating 2027, the wait time will be bridged by a five-episode, spin-off miniseries titled The War Between the Land and the Sea.
The focus will not be on The Doctor, but much like Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, will focus on another well-known entity in the Whoniverse – UNIT – led by Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) – and featuring the return of several other returning characters including Colonel Ibrahim (Alexander Devrient) and Shirley Ann Bingham (Ruth Madeley).
The BBC has shared their first trailer for the mini-series, providing our first look at the stakes, characters both new and returning, and arguably the darker vibe they are going for.
No release date has been shared for The War Between the Land and the Sea, with estimates being for a release later in 2025. It will stream on the BBC iPlayer in the United Kingdom, and on Disney+ around the world.
