In what is shaping up to be quite the divisive announcement so far, developer CCP Games today announced that after almost two decades, EVE Online will be receiving its first crossover event. In partnership with BBC Studios, a Doctor Who themed event titled ‘The Interstellar Convergence‘ will go live on game servers starting 13 January 2022.
EVE Online x Doctor Who introduces new, Gallifrey-themed space where players will search for artifacts from Doctor Who’s Great Time War. The artifacts will provide players with clues to track down the infamous Daleks and face them in an interstellar battle of the ages. Players who survive the fight will reap unique rewards that they can take back to New Eden. Those who don’t survive… well perhaps an exterminate beam will be headed your way. Additionally, a login campaign with skill points and Doctor Who-themed items will be available to all players throughout the duration of the event.
According to the game’s event page for The Interstellar Convergence:
One thing you can be sure of is that The Interstellar Convergence will be one of the most distinct, engrossing events ever to take place in EVE Online, whether you are a die-hard fan of the Time Lord’s adventures, or entirely new to Doctor Who. What’s more, The Interstellar Convergence has been designed from the ground up to offer experienced EVE players plenty of fresh and captivating gameplay , while remaining welcoming to new pilots – including Doctor Who fans who are new to EVE Online.
With EVE Online being a game rich in its own lore and resisting crossover events for so long, it is understandable that some long-time players may see this news as disappointing. Whether the events that take place should be considered canon is questionable at this stage. But for those who are looking to nab themselves some Doctor Who themed loot, the event will run from 13 January until 1 February 2022.
