Have you dreamed of commissioning artwork, a story or audio recording from your favourite Japanese creator? Skeb is a platform that allows registered creators from Japan to source commissions from their fans across the world. If you are an active user and your favourite creator has not had their requests open for some time, you may want to keep your eyes out, as Skeb will be holding a fee-free campaign from 25 July 2023 at 00:00 JST until 31 July 2023 at 23:59 JST.
This will see the cut that Skeb takes from the funds raised from the commission from approximately 6.8% down to a flat 0% during the campaign provided some rules are met.
While this means no change for clients, for the artists and other creatives on the service, it meant that they would receive the full cut of money earned from requests they take via the service. Therefore, theoretically, they would be more interested in accepting proposals for a slightly lower fee or be keener on opening/accepting commissions in general. For some artists, these promotional periods are the only times they tend to open request.
Why is this promotion taking place? While seemingly out of the blue, they are putting it on to celebrate over 1 million works being fulfilled by the service, and them having over 150,000 registered creators.
