Pony Canyon has announced that Red Riding Hood: A Detective Story will receive an anime adaptation in 2027, bringing Aito Aoyagi’s fairy tale mystery series to animation.
Based on Aoyagi’s Red Riding Hood novel series published under Futaba Bunko, the story combines familiar fairy tale settings and characters with traditional mystery storytelling. It follows Red Riding Hood as she encounters and solves crimes and other incidents while travelling through the fairy tale world. Yume Miyamoto will voice Red Riding Hood, while Akira Sekine has been cast as Pinocchio.
Animation production for the upcoming series is being handled by BENTEN Film. Itsuro Kawasaki will serve as both director and series composition writer, with Manami Minakata and Yuko Yahiro named as character designers. Pony Canyon has also released comments from Kawasaki and original author Aito Aoyagi alongside the announcement.
The newly revealed teaser visual places Red Riding Hood at its centre with Pinocchio shown inside a basket, surrounded by objects and motifs connected to the story. The teaser trailer also introduces the anime’s mystery-focused tone through one of Red Riding Hood’s lines from the original work: “Why is your crime plan so sloppy?”
