Rei Nakashima is set to perform the opening theme song for the upcoming original TV anime Train to the End of the World. Titled GA-TAN GO-TON, the single for this theme song is scheduled for release on 29 May 2024, approximately two months following the anime commencing broadcast on 1 April 2024.
Train to the End of the World is a new animation project directed by Tsutomu Mizushima, whose previous works include Shirobako and Girls und Panzer. It is a straight-to-anime series, meaning it is not based on any original light novel or manga work. It sets out to take viewers on a journey best described as “apocalyptic world × train × friendship” – with a bit of a cute charm as you can tell from the key artwork.
A short version of the music video has been released, featuring Nakashima. As put by Victor Entertainment Group and FlyingDog Inc:
The song allows her soft, clear and pure voice to shine alongside a melody that copiously incorporates gimmicks. You’ll involuntarily start swaying back and forth as you listen to it and Nakashima’s dancing, which includes cute choreography as if she’s hanging onto the straps found in trains, makes it a must-see video.
The single’s release will also include two additional tracks: Karappo no Tsuki and Egao no Hana. The former aims to reveal a deeper and more mature aspect of Nakashima’s voice, while the latter is a self-penned samba tune that celebrates personal growth and happiness. In addition to offering a standard edition CD release, a limited edition will also be available, including a Blu-ray with the full music video for “GA-TAN GO-TON”, behind-the-scenes footage, and exclusive content from Nakashima’s birthday event, where she attempted cooking curry.
