Seeking to delve “into the world of subterfuge with its newest acquisition”, North American anime publisher Sentai Filmworks have confirmed their acquisition of Princess Principal. Part of the Summer 2017 anime season in Japan, Princess Principal is an original series by Studio 3Hz (Celestial Method, FLIP FLAPPERS) and Actas Inc. (Girls und Panzer). This series will stream in the United States via Anime Strike, Amazon’s on-demand anime subscription service.
Princess Principal follows the story of five students, who are required to navigate within a gritty underworld. At the end of the 19th century, London, the Kingdom of Albion has been split into East and West sides by a giant wall. Five girls attend Queen’s Mayfaire, a conventional and prestigious school. Under the guise of regular high school girls, they act as spies under cover. Disguise, reconnaissance, infiltration, car chases… Each girl uses their own set of special skills to dart around the world of shadow.
In addition to the aforementioned anime studios, Princess Principal is being directed by Masaki Tachibana, whose past works include Barakamon and .hack//Quantum. Also involved is Ichiro Ohkouchi providing series composition (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion) and Yuki Kajiura providing sound direction (Puella Magi Madoka Magica).
