In the closing days of 2016, western publisher Sekai Project launched another one of their crowdfunding campaigns, this time for a 1-episode OVA adaptation of NEKO WORKs and Sayori’s visual novel NEKOPARA. They went out asking for a sum of $100,000 USD from the community, which ultimately saw them receive $963,376 from 9,122 people.
Despite surpassing their initial goal by more than 9.5x, which has seen the original 20-minute anime extended into a 60-minute episode in more languages than originally planned, they didn’t manage to achieve all their stretch goals. While the $600,000 goal will see a new NEKOPARA mini-visual novel created which focuses on when Chocola and Vanilla were children, a short animation based on this VN would have seen them need a full $1,000,000.
Fortunately for those wishing that the final stretch goal would be reached, Sekai Project continued funding temporarily through their website. While pledges towards funding the anime are no longer being taken, they did manage to raise a total of $1,049,552 at the end of the campaign, meaning that all stretch goals for NEKOPARA OVA have been accomplished.
NEKOPARA OVA is estimated to be delivered to backers in their chosen formats during December 2017.
About NEKOPARA Anime OVA
What’s NEKOPARA? Why, it’s a cat paradise! Kashou Minaduki, the son of a long line of Japanese confection makers moved out to open his own shop “La Soleil” as a patisserie. But upon moving out, hidden amongst his things were two of the catgirls, Chocola and Vanilla, that the family had been raising. When he tried to send them back, they begged and pleaded until he gave in and now they’ve opened La Soleil together. With two catgirls who really, REALLY love their master trying their very best and occasionally failing — a heartful comedy opens for business!
