Although their acquisition shouldn’t come as a surprise, given they hold the home distribution rights for the first season, North American anime publisher Sentai Filmworks have confirmed they have licensed the darkly cerebral science fiction title: Knights of Sidonia Season 2: Battle for Planet Nine.
The story continues follows ace pilot, Nagate Tanikaze, as he spearheads the defense of Sidonia against a terrifying alien threat alongside an unlikely ally, a human-alien hybrid whose voice is strikingly similar to someone he loved and lost. However, Sidonia may be in more danger than anyone realized, as diabolical forces plot not only from without but also within.
Knights of Sidonia Season 2: Battle for Planet Nine is based on the original manga series by Tsutomu Nihei. This anime adaptation has been directed by Hiroyuki Seshita, with series composition and script by Sadayuki Murai. The anime production has been handled by Polygon Pictures, who also worked on the first season.
Knights of Sidonia Season 2: Battle for Planet Nine first aired in Japan during April 2015. Sentai Filmworks have confirmed they hope to have a home video release available soon.
