While the first anime adaptation of Utawarerumono is currently being retailed by Funimation Entertainment as part of a S.A.V.E. DVD Edition, it is North American anime publisher Sentai Filmworks who have confirmed they will be handling its new season: Utawarerumono The False Faces. This season is based on the second visual novel in the Utawarerumono series, developed and published in Japan by Aquaplus only this year.
The anime follows an amnesiac protagonist who wakes up in a snowy field remembering neither who he is or how he got there. After being saved by a beautiful girl named Kuon, he is given the name Haku, and his journey to rediscover his identity begins.
Utawarerumono The False Faces is being directed by Keitaro Motonaga, with series composition by Takamitsu Kouno and character designs by Masahiko Nakata. White Fox (Who has previously worked on series including The Devil is a Part-Timer! and Steins;Gate) is handling the animation on this project.
As part of Sentai Filmworks’ Fall 2015 line-up, expect Utawarerumono The False Faces to be available via select digital video-on-demand services in the near future.
