License rescuing a title from the days of ADV Films, North American anime publisher Sentai Filmworks have confirmed that they now hold the rights to the anime adaptation of CLAMP’s Angelic Layer. This announcement comes as Australian anime publisher Madman Entertainment recently confirmed their plans for a re-release of the series in their respective regions.
Angelic Layer is a 26-episode anime series which follows young heroine Misaki Suzuha, who is drawn into the hit “doll battling” game Angelic Layer – where dolls are controlled by the thoughts on their operator. Having watched and previously reviewed the series (Score: A-), I can confirm that it is another enticing series based on the work of CLAMP, delivering a good combination of action, humour and drama.
Angelic Layer features animation by Bones, with direction by Hiroshi Nishikiori (Azumanga Daioh, A Certain Magical Index, Jyo-Oh-Sei), series composition and scripting by Ichiro Okouchi (Azumanga Daioh, Code Geass, Negima!), music by Kouhei Tanaka (One Piece, Sakura Wars, Assassination Classroom) and character design adaptation by Takahiro Komori (Darker Than Black, Scrapped Princess).
Sentai Filmworks have plans to distribute the series digitally at first, with a home video release to follow at a later date.
