Since the Australian / New Zealand rights to Sailor Moon were acquired by them in late-2014, fans have been curious about when Madman Entertainment will begin their retail distribution of the popular anime series. After fielding many requests, the team at Madman have finally shared their current plans – which are considerably different from the United States release handled by VIZ Media.

Sailor Moon’s first collection will be released on April 15th 2015, and will contain a total of 15-episodes. The first print run will also include bonus materials which will be finalized at a later date. The biggest difference however will be that Madman will only be doing a release on DVD and paid digital platforms – entirely omitting the blu-ray edition.

Madman claim that in order to deliver the best possible produce and taking into consideration the feedback from the quality of other versions of the series released internationally – they have created their own release from scratch using “high quality remastered standard definition materials”. To be more specific, they are likely responding to the complaints made about the Blu-ray release of Sailor Moon Volume 1 in the US.

At this stage there are no true HD (high definition) materials available for Sailor Moon and we cannot confidently create a Blu-ray release that we feel would measure up to the high standards that fans of the show deserve. Hopefully this will be addressed in the not too distant future.

Release dates and further details on further volumes will be announced in the future.
